Team building experiences have the potential to be encouraging events or they may cause your team to barely participate and resent the activity. As a manager, it is your job to create fun and exciting team building events that will engage your employees. Now that summertime is just around the corner, there are many possible activities that can help boost morale and productivity in the office. Here are some things you can do this year.

An Employee and Family Picnic

There is a reason this tried and true activity is still common in the American workplace. Invite your staff and their families for a cookout at a local park or outside your office. This can be done on Friday afternoon as a break from the schedule or on a weekend. This avoids the dreaded icebreakers and allows everyone to engage.

Office Volunteering Events

Modern employees have indicated that they like working for companies that give back to their community. Work with local organizations to develop volunteering programs and give your employees an opportunity to participate. You can also talk directly with your team to see what causes they want to support and put your effort into these groups.

Health and Wellness

Many employees say that they don’t feel like they have enough time for exercise or healthy eating while they’re working full time. You can bridge this gap by offering fitness classes during the week. Yoga is a good low impact activity. For something more involved, organize a dodge ball or baseball game. Encourage everyone to participate by allowing them some time away from their desks.

Job Swaps

An often overlooked team building exercise that is also completely free is the ability to job swap. Let managers take over the duties of their employees for just one day to see what it is like to handle that aspect of the company. You can pair people up from different departments to shadow each other and see a day in the life of a coworker.
